We are excited to share our harvest again after last years light apple crop. The crop looks very promising. We got a little nervous back in April this year when we had an ice storm. It brought down many of our trees around the orchard but thankfully none in the orchard. The picture to the right shows our spring buds encased in ice.
We are just finishing up with our Paulareds and have begun to spot pick our Gingergold apples. Once the McIntosh start, about the second week in September the season will be on. We are in the process of adding cold storage, so we can extend our season past harvest this year. Our hope is to be open until just before Christmas.
We are now growing 38 varieties of apples and 5 different kinds of pears. For those who don't want to Pick Their Own Apples we offer pre-picked apples in our store. The peaches and pears that we grow will only be offered as pre-picked and available in the store, in season. We have already finished with our peaches for this season. We've been busy making our homemade jams, jellies and relishes, which are also available in our store. On the week-ends we will also be offering home baking.
We will be starting to make our fresh apple cider in the middle of September - once we have enough ripe varieties for blending. We offer our apple cider in 4 litre, 2 litre, 500 ml and 250 ml jugs.
...and you're welcome to utilize our picnic tables to enjoy your meal and extend your stay at our orchard. We love to share our wonderful location with you.
Please consult our Harvest News page on our website to see what we are currently picking, what is coming up and what is done.
See you soon!
